7 Hottest Outdoor Toys for One-Year-Old Boys

We are in the dog days of summer and I’m starting to run out of steam. I feel like we live at the park and I just want to hang out at home for a bit with my little guy. My one-year-old, on the other hand, wants to be outside All The Time. So we compromised. As well as one can with a toddler. We spend most of our day outside. (Toddler win.) But, we are still at home, so snacks, air conditioning, and bathrooms are easily accessible. (Mom win.)

We have a few outdoor toys, but I just went into super research mode to find even more awesome summer toys for young toddlers. I figured that I couldn’t be the only one interested. So for my amazing readers, I have rounded up the best of the best outdoor toys for one-year-old boys.

Little Tikes 4-in-1 Trike Ride On, Red/White, Sports Edition

My kid LOVES this thing. Anytime we go anywhere, he wants to go in this. He isn’t too happy when I have to insist that we simply can’t carry all our groceries home in his trike basket. I love that it has levels and can adjust to your child’s height and development. Normally we don’t use the sun shade, but I like that it is an option for super sunny days.

Little Tikes First Slide

The only playground equipment that my son is ever interested in the slides. Climbing up, sliding down, repeat. Forever. This slide has a 4.5-star rating on Amazon and is crazy inexpensive. But my favorite part: It folds for storage! Be still my beating heart.

Fisher-Price Power Wheels PAW Patrol Lil’ Quad

My toddler dreams of going fast. I know mine does. He is obsessed with fast cars. (Which makes sense since his dad is also obsessed with car racing.) This goes up to a maximum speed of 2MPH. That is fast enough for the kiddo, but still safe enough for mom.

Deluxe 15 Piece Sand Toys Set

Whether you live by a beach (lucky you!) or just have a sandbox in the backyard like we do, sand is so much more fun with toys. I love the molds that come with this bucket and all the racks and shovels too. It’s also not super flimsy like some cheaper sets, but it is still a really good price.

Britax B-Agile Stroller

When Kai is tired of running, he loves to go for a stroll. We bought this stroller with the Britax B-Agile/B-Safe Travel System before Kai was born. He has outgrown his infant car seat, but I still use this stroller constantly. It’s great for both walks around town and for travel. It’s not heavy or bulky (though it is bigger than an umbrella stroller.) It maneuvers really well. I have even been known to occasionally jog with it. It isn’t an “official jogging stroller”, but I’m not a “real” jogger, so I don’t need anything fancy.

Little Tikes Gas ‘n Go Mower

Kai is such a big helper most days. He really wants to do everything that daddy does and while he loves watching daddy mow from the window, he really wants to go outside (after daddy is done) and mow the lawn himself.

Little Tikes Easy Store Junior Picnic Table with Umbrella

Some days toddlers don’t even want to go inside to eat. Eating is non-negotiable in my house. So, a picnic table is a perfect solution. This one gives kiddos a bit of a break from the sun and allows them to eat and rest their legs while still enjoying nature. (It also gives them an opportunity to feed the dog any food that they refuse to eat. But that’s just less money to spend on dog food, am I right?

Summer is such a fun time and with the very long, cold winters we have in Illinois, I want my little boy to spend as much time as possible enjoying the nice weather. There are a crazy amount of kids outdoor toys, but it’s sometimes hard to find good-quality, age-appropriate toys. I hope this list helped you find some interesting products that you may not have come across before. Thanks for spending part of your day with me.

XO, Amanda

I have a 13 month old boy so I feel your pain for the great outdoors this summer! His favorites are his little play pool and his climber/slide combo. Thanks for sharing some other ideas for outside. Now I’m trying to figure out how to bring the outdoors inside for the winter months!
